Best portable mini-Bluetooth speakers
Logitech UE Boom
Cnet rating: 4 stars out of 5
The good: Compact, durable wireless Bluetooth speaker that plays very loud for its size and is water- and stain-resistant. It offers up to 15 hours of battery life, has speakerphone capabilities and is well-suited to outdoor use. Also, if you buy a second speaker, you can create a completely wireless pair of true stereo speakers using the UE Boom app for iOS and Android devices.
The bad: Somewhat pricey; while the sound quality is very good for a speaker this size, the bass could be fuller.
The cost: $200
The bottom line: The UE Boom is a versatile and durable wireless Bluetooth speaker that plays loudly and is great for on-the-go use.JBL Flip
Cnet rating: 4 stars out of 5
The good: Affordable compact, portable Bluetooth speaker that is designed to be used horizontally or vertically. It sounds good and plays loudly for its size, has speakerphone capabilities and ships with a neoprene carrying case.
The bad: The unit is powered by a generic, somewhat bulky AC adapter instead of USB, and the five-hour battery life is only OK. It doesnt handle bass-heavy material incredibly well.
The cost: $99 to $100
The bottom line: The JBL Flips decent performance and attractive design make it a worthy Bluetooth speaker contender.JBL Charge
Cnet rating: 4 stars out of 5
The good: Compact, portable Bluetooth speaker that sounds very good for its size and is designed to be used horizontally or vertically. It has a built-in USB port that allows you to use the speakers built-in 6,000mAh lithium ion battery to charge other portable devices, and it ships with a neoprene carrying case.
The bad: It doesnt have speakerphone capabilities, and it cant handle heavy bass at higher volumes without distortion.
The cost: $150
The bottom line: The JBL Charge is a nice compromise for those who want a better-sounding portable wireless speaker but dont want to make the jump - both in terms of size and price - to something like the Jawbone Big Jambox or Bose SoundLink. The Oontz by Cambridge SoundWorks
Cnet rating: 3.5 stars out of 5
The good: It sounds good for a modestly priced mini Bluetooth speaker. It also offers good battery life, built-in speakerphone capabilities and an attractive though somewhat generic design. A carrying pouch is included.
The bad: Some people wont like how bright the blue light is on the front of the unit. The speaker has a Mini-USB port (for charging) instead of the now more common Micro-USB port.
The cost: $50 to $70
The bottom line: The Cambridge SoundWorks Oontz may not look incredibly swanky, but it delivers good sound, features and battery life for its modest price.
