HTC sets March 25 launch for its next flagship — announces ‘Advantage’ initiative for free screen replacements

It’s that time of the year again: Both HTC and Samsung are gearing up to show off their latest flagship smartphones.
HTC just sent out invites this morning to a launch event in New York City and London for March 25, where it’s expected to show off the successor to last year’s fantastic One Android phone. Earlier this month, Samsung sent out invites to a launch event in a few weeks, where the Galaxy S5 will likely appear.
While we don’t know what HTC will call its next smartphone (it’s currently being referred to by the prototype designation “M8,” and it could end up just reusing the One name), several leaks suggest it will retain the One’s metal styling but will pack in a slightly bigger 5-inch screen. We’ve also heard from several reports that HTC could pack in a dual-sensor camera, which would allow it to take better pictures (but likely keep the same 8-megapixel photo size).
Despite being my favorite Android phone last year, the One wasn’t a huge success for HTC, which continues to bleed money as it tries to reassess its marketing strategy. The company revealed a few weeks ago that it intends to focus more on marketing this year, and it also plans to unveil its first wearable gadget by the end of the year.
In a bid to tempt customers, HTC announced a new Advantage initiative this morning, which offers a variety of bonuses for buyers of its One line of smartphones. The biggest draw? HTC says it will replace cracked screens for free up to six months after you purchase a One smartphone. Additionally, you’ll get either 25GB or 50GB of Google Drive storage (depending on the phone model you get) and a software support commitment for two years.
