Solutions to Ukraine crisis lie in constitutional reform, end of foreign interference: Russia
MOSCOW, April 4 (Xinhua) -- All tools to overcome the current crisis in Ukraine are inside it exclusively, and any foreign involvement in Ukraines affairs must be stopped, Moscow said Friday.
The only way out of the difficult situation in Ukraine lies in constitutional reform and the end of foreign interference in the countrys domestic affairs, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters following a meeting of foreign ministers from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
It turns out that the West has taken a role of arbiter of fate in that country, while (Ukraines) current authorities dont seem to be independent, Interfax news agency quoted the minister as saying.
Authorities in Kiev must also equally respect the rights of all Ukrainian citizens, including ethnic minorities, he added.
Meanwhile, Lavrov said the main contradictions that must be overcome to settle the crisis in Ukraine have been inside the country. Until these contradictions within Ukrainian society are overcome, the crisis will not end, he noted.
During the Friday meeting, the top diplomats of the CIS countries expressed their hope that Ukraine would stay in the bloc despite Kievs threat to leave the CIS after Russia adopted Crimea as its territory in March.
Following Crimeas accession to Russia, Ukraine stripped itself of duties of the CIS rotating presidency. The post has been taken over by Belarus.
