Cardinals player, Reds fan embark on adorable little scandal
Justin Klugh Posted: Friday, April 4, 2014, 1:11 PM
Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams was tracking a foul ball yesterday, but because he wasnt in St. Louis, the stands werent full of all the best fans in baseball.
They were full of Reds fans, who were less excited about him making an out. One fan stuck his glove out and caught the ball before Adams could, taunted him, and then received a slight push from Adams. The fan then gave Adams the finger.

With the fallout of the ordeal unfolding, we take a look at the way this story has split in two.
Matt Adams - memory loss
Adams is pleading the only thing he can at this point - ignorance. What? Foul ball? In the stands? Im sorry, sirs, I have aboslutely no recollection of the events you are descrbiing. Yes, show the clear video of them to me all you want, its not going to remind me of them, I guarantee you.
Adams was then told he did make contact with Smith.
Im not that type of guy to go after anybody, Adams said. I was just trying to stop from going into the stands and stop from falling in there.
Matheny looked puzzled when asked about the incident, but then backed his player, saying he assumed it was Adams trying not to go tail-over-tea kettle into the stands.
Adams said he thought hed make the catch if Smith didnt first.
Adams also said he didnt realize Smith gave him the finger, but was certainly told afterward.

Reds fan - pity party
The fans name was Chris Smith, and despite giving Adams the finger, he didnt technically do anything wrong. So he has proudly staked his flag in the moral high ground, wondering how, how could this pro ball player lose such control and lash out so violently on a poor post-op baseball fan?
He gave me a shove and I fell back, Smith said. Im pretty sensitive about my knee right now. Im fresh out of surgery, its nothing to joke around about.
Smith and friend Kristen Kidd, who was sitting next to him, said there were no words exchanged between the two. Just the shove -- and the gesture that was caught live on TV.
I wouldnt be mad if he wasnt hurt, Kidd said.
