Balloting for Afghan presidential election concludes

KABUL, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The polling for Afghanistans presidential election concluded on Saturday and counting of ballots has begun, authorities said.

KABUL, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Afghans began voting on Saturday morning to elect a new president for the next five years in the first transfer of power through polling. The polling opened at 7:00 a.m. (local time) and will close at 4:00 p.m.

Afghans vote in presidential election, dare Taliban threats
KABUL, April 5 (Xinhua) -- The war-weary Afghans on Saturday went to vote in the presidential election despite Taliban threats and a string of attacks.

New 211 polling centers remain close in Afghan election: official
KABUL, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Another 211 polling centers remained closed during the one-day Afghan presidential election due to insecurity, bringing to 959 the number of centers to be shut down in the country, said an election official.
A total of 211 polling centers were closed down on the election day due to armed engagements and enemies attacks in parts of the country, Chairman of Independent Election Commission (IEC) Ahmad Yousuf Nouristani told reporters here.  Full story
