"Best" & "Worst" awards: 76ers vs. Celtics
Keith Pompey, The Philadelphia Inquirer Posted: Saturday, April 5, 2014, 1:26 PM
BOSTON– My look at some of the best and worst performances from the 76ers 111-102 victory over the Boston Celtics Friday night at TD Garden:
Best performance: This goes to Michael Carter-Williams for leading the Sixers to victory. The rookie point guard finished with 24 points, six rebounds and six assists in his Boston homecoming. He took over the game after the Celtics closed the gap to three points (89-86) with 6 minutes, 4 seconds left. Carter-Williams scored the Sixers next seven points to give his team, a six-point (96-90) cushion. Then he later assisted on Thaddeus Young’s jumper that made it a 10-point game (100-90) with 2:12 left.
Worst performance: Phil Pressey wins this award. The Celtics backup point guard had a hard time defending Carter-Williams and holding into the ball. The rookie had three turnovers and zero assists in 14:31. Pressey finished with four points on 2-for-5 shooting and had two rebounds and two steals. However, he was a liability against his good friend, Carter-Williams
Best defensive performance: This award goes to Elliot Williams. The Sixers reserve guard had a game-high four steals while living in the Celtics’ passing lanes. Williams also finished with 15 points. Best performance in a losing effort: Rajon Rondo wins this award. The Celtics point guard recorded his second triple-double in three games. He torched the Sixers for 11 points and game-highs of 16 assists and 11 rebounds.
Worst statistic:You have togive this to the Celtics three-point shooting. They made just 9 of 30 three-point attempts (27.3 percent).
Beststatistic: This award goes to the Sixers reserves’ shooting. They combined to make 13 of 20 shots (65 percent).
