Phillies postpone home opener until Tuesday
Matt Gelb Posted: Sunday, April 6, 2014, 1:56 PM
CHICAGO — More than 25 hours before the scheduled first pitch at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies postponed their home opener. The game, originally scheduled for 3:05 p.m. on Monday, will be played Tuesday at 4:05 p.m.
The decision was made so soon, the team said, because the schedule provided a built-in rain protection date on Tuesday. The weather forecast calls for considerable rain all Monday afternoon, according to the Phillies.
All tickets from Mondays game will be honored Tuesday, the team said. All gates will open at 1:35 p.m. The game will be televised on NBC10.
The postponement does have an effect on the Phillies pitching: They will need a fifth starter on April 12, one day earlier than anticipated. Righthander David Buchanan is the leading candidate to fill that spot.
